Attributes

8 weeksWorking Style: Just coming off our first full hunting season, Aabi is developing into a good hunting dog.  She has learned where the birds are and is now working the thick brush and grass much better than the start of the season.  Aabi holds her head up as she searches and follows scent.  She locks-up solid on wild and pen raised birds and looks “staunch”.  She casts well and is developing an effective, persistent search.  She has an excellent nose and tracks birds at a fast pace.  She checks-in frequently and her range varies depending the cover type; working close in heavy cover and ranging out more in the stubble and open fields.  She has developed a natural steadiness to shot and fall.  Aabi’s use of nose and love of snow and water are her strongest characteristics.  She is a good retriever and relies on her nose to locate the downed bird’s final location.  She ran down several crippled pheasants this year, while another hunting dog was still tracking the scent trail.

Conformation: Aabi is exceptionally well built, with a tall, thick, well-muscled and balanced body. Her legs are straight and strong. Her coat is soft, dense, of medium length with some feathering on her front legs, hind quarters and tail.

Temperament:  Aabi is responsive to training.  She picks up on body language and hand signals more quickly than verbal commands.  She is cautious of new people. Having 4 people following her and me at her Natural Ability Test created a little apprehension for her to run and search during the early portions of the field work, resulting in a lower score.  In the house Aabi is affectionate but independent.  She gets along with other dogs well and loves to play whenever she can.
